Caring for your Crochet Treasures

Caring for your Crochet Treasures

Crochet items like blankets, sweaters, hats or any other items made are homemade treasures that require proper care for them to be used longer. Contrary to popular belief that they are hard to maintain and care, there are actually easy steps to make last for many years.

Handwashing them is the safest way to care for them but use of washer can be done. Preferably, use cold water when washing and when you are using the washer, always choose the mildest cycle. You can also use lingerie bags to avoid snags and reduce pilling and it helps you separate them.

Always use a mild detergent to keep the yarn colors vibrant and alive. Avoid using bleach and harsh detergents as they can fade dyes. Fabric softeners are not recommended as the impact is unpredictable.

It will be also note-worthy to remember to check on the type of yarn that was used for the projects, make sure to follow the instructions on the care label. You can wash conservatively that stated in the care label to be on the safe side and be cautious in using hotter water that what was recommended on the care label.

Never wring a project, ever. What you can do is warp them in a towel and press it repeatedly until it is relatively dry. When drying, set them flat on a table to dry. Never hang them as it could stretch the project.

Pretty straightforward and easy, right?
